My Hero, My Dad, My Soulmate, during World War II when he was a spy. He won two silver stars for this episode in his life. He infiltrated as an SS Captain, and lived with a platoon of German soldiers for six weeks, and convinced them to surrender when the time was right and not one of them died in the process. The second silver star for infiltrating a ring of Nazis after the war, that were trying to get gold bullion out of Berlin…. My Dad, what a star!

What a story! Did you save both uniforms? How did he infiltrate into the German army?

Hi Blunderbuss2- He was fluent in German due to his Mom being the head of the antiques division of Lord and Taylor in New York from the 1920s through the 1950s. He lived in Europe in his youth 3 months out of the year primarily in Germany and England before the war broke out. He was fluent in German because of that. He was also a juvenile actor on Broadway. He was very patriotic so when the war broke out he joined up and OSS utilized his talents. My Family comes from a long line of patriotic people, My Great, Great, Great, Etc. Uncle was Captain Isaac Hull, USN Commander of the USS Constitution during the war of 1812. My Dad loved his country and worked for the government for his entire career. The family still has his hat from his German Nazi SS uniform.

Would to see the other pics you have now that we have a bit of history. I would love to see the SS cap, knowing what it was used for.
You dangle some bait & then don't follow up! Bet he got ribbed a lot about being in the SS.

My Brother has the SS cap, he is in Texas. My Dad worked for the Government doing high level classified work until he retired, he passed in 2000, he is and always will be my Hero. His exploits were used in an espionage novel written by a guy my Dad worked with and it is a very sore subject with me because my Dad was a great writer and he should have written his own novel. I'm not going to release the name of the novel the other guy wrote because I feel he exploited his friendship with my Dad for monetary rewards. He was only in the SS for 6 weeks, he did his job, he got his medal for it, he saved lives because of it. He was only 20 when he did it and to me that is amazing. He was a true Hero.

Please do the future a favour, document what you have & write documents of authenticity for each items you have. This is the sort of history that should be documented so it doesn't get lost over time. With documentation, you probably have a display for a musee' case. Please don't put it off. This sort of thing goes beyond just a personal thing for you & should be preserved for others as well.

Thanks we have quite a bit, my families linage goes back to the Revolution, lots of warriors all documented. As my Mom often says we come from a long line, both here and in Europe, my Mom was a war bride, she is German. Her Father was in the Reichstag as an elected member of the Socialist party. He told Joseph Goebbles to go to Hell in 1933 when he was asked under interrogation to join the Nazi party after Hitler burned the Reichstag and round up all the Socialists and Communists and blamed it on them. My Grandfather had gotten a lot of his Jewish friends out using his political status to get them visas. He was put in a Concentration camp as soon as Hitler was elected Chancellor after the Reichstag burning, my Mom was 5 when the SS came to their house. He survived it, was a cripple from the constant beatings he endured and lived to age 80.

I was trading books at a marina last week & picked up this book by W.E.B. Griffin, THE SECRET WARRIORS by chance. I assume you have read it & would like to know if it is basically factual? Is your father 1 of the characters & can you give his name? I don't usually read Griffin but this has proved to ge a good one. may read more of his books. The truth can often be more unbelievable than fiction. Are there any books that include your father that I can look for?
Hey, you are the one who got me interested & stirred my love of this era again.
