    G'day folks,

Just wondering if anyone has seen a trunk like this and would be able to give me any information, ie age, origin etc. I looking to buy if from an an estate but they have no information about it! I'm not an antique dealer or anything, my partner is in love with it which means I'm going to have to buy it, but I'd like to learn something about it first if I can so I don't get ripped off - if that's possible. Thank you in advance for any information.
    regards,
    Boof.

Hey Boof -- I am seeing a fair number of these coming on the market as of late and I am having a difficult time trying to discern their authenticity. Present day Asian craftsman can make a trunk look old so without actually seeing the piece first hand it is hard to discern age. They are still lovely pieces in their own right. My advice would be that if it is at a decent price then buy it for its decorative value and enjoy it. If it is at a high price then you assume a certain amount of risk if you are paying an antique premium. Just be aware that there are many of these out there that are decorative but not antique -- even a couple on this forum I believe.
