Hi, Petey! Can you please tell us when the police would have worn a helmet? SWAT-like squad, or riot detail, or 'something' not routine? Thanks!
Hi miKKoChristmas11, steel helmets were very rarely used, that is why this is in such good condition. They were kept just in case the Cold War broke out into a HOT one ( national emergency). Very occasionally they were supposed to be used during large scale disorder, and occasionally for an incident involving the use of firearms, although in some forces there was no real SWAT-like squad in those years. It was just a case of calling on a local police officer who had been trained in the use firearms to pop back to the police station to be issued with a gun!! I can never remember having seen one being used.
Very interesting. Thank you! I had never seen one of these. Very visible helmet.
