1. 1914. SON COMING HOME TO MOTHER. UNUSUAL IN THAT IT GETS AWAY FROM THE CULINARY THEME PROPER TO THE HOLIDAY.

2. 1915. ALSO QUITE UNUSUAL. AN OLD MAN SHARES HIS MEAGER CRUMBS WITH THE BIRDS. THE PATHOS OF THE SCENE DOES NO HIDE THAT FACT THE HOLIDAY IS ALSO MEANT TO SIGNIFY THE SHARING WITH THOSE WHO HAVE LESS THAN YOU DO.

3. 1918: A WWI DOUGHBOY WALKING HIS TURKEY. THE COUNTRY TOOK CARE OF ITS FIGHTING TROOPS.

4. 1919. ANOTHER VERSION OF THE "STARVING BOY" IMAGE. AN INTERESTING ASIDE: I CAN RECALL ONLY ONE OF MY COVERS WHERE A GIRL APPEARS TO SHARE IN THE FEAST.

LEYENDECKER ONCE COMPLAINED THERE SHOULD BE MORE HOLIDAYS ON THE CALENDAR, FOR HIM TO CREATE MORE ALLUSIVE COVERS!
