This brings us up to the 1948-49 Birthday series Mickey Mouse watches. Ingersoll (US Time) made 10 different characters for the celebration of Mickey Mouse's 20th birthday. They include the following characters: Mickey Mouse, Pluto, Daisy Duck, Donald Duck, Bambi, Pinocchio, Bongo the Bear, Jiminy Cricket, Dopey and Jose (Joe) Carioca.
The 1948's all the character were smaller and fit inside the inner circle. the "WDP is located under the character. The 1949's , the character is a little larger and hangs over the inner circle, with the "WDP" to the right of the character. In addition the 1949 watches were also offered with a 'luminous" dial and hands.
The 1948 was the first time Mickey was offered with the blue strap and wasn't offered again until 1976 .

These must be very rare I have never seen them on eBay and they are absolutely gorgeous. They remind me of my first Mickey when I was 6 which started all this for me, although I know it is not the same as mine but somehow it evokes that memory for me, maybe the shape of the watch :)
Thank you bobogal, and they are getting harder to find, see the 49 plain dial from time to time on Ebay, but usually they go high. The luminous dial ones really high and in the box, outragious. Thanks again for looking and was your first one a large watch or smaller in size? The larger ones, with this style of case were from 1947-50. I have one posted somewhere in the horde, :-)
