My great grandpa bought this in Japan in 1910.

It is 23 inches tall, with 17 inches around. See the last photo with hollow on the bottom.

Light. Bamboo?

Any info on this would be appreciated.

Hi Barb, This is Shou, one of the three Chinese star gods. with his elaborate staff and holding a ru yi on his left arm. I am guessing from the photos that he is carved from solid wood with details made to look like bamboo. I believe wood because I can't see a seam at his head or his rounded shoulders or in the front view.
    Regards, Jim
