MY VERY FIRST POST ON LEYENDECKER'S THANKSGIVING COVERS WAS 6 MONTHS AGO. PLEASE LOOK FOR IT, SINCE IT SHOWS THE 1921 BUTCHER BABY THAT PRECEDES THE 1922,, AND THE 1924 PILGRIM WITH A GUN, A BIBLE AND AN ATTITUDE. MY PURPOSE IN THE SERIES IS TO SHOW A SENSE OF CONTINUITY IN THE VERY VARIETY OF THE IMAGERY,

1. 1920. A SCRAWNY PILGRIM TRIES TO EAT HIS TURKEY WHILE BEING ATTACKED BY (INVISIBLE) INDIANS.

2.1922 THE BUTCHER BABY, DRAGGING THE TURKEY TO HIS FATE. COMPARE WITH THE 1918 DOUGHBOY WALKING THE TURKEY,

3. 1925. GRANDMOTHERLY TYPE PEELING APPLES FOR THE tHANKSGIVING DESSERT. LEYENDECKER WAS HERE CONSCIOUSLY APPEALING TO HIS OWN GERMAN, IMMIGRANT ORIGINS.

4.1927. AGAIN, AN APPEAL TO A BYGONE, MYTHICAL AMERICAN PAST. A GRANDFATHER NAPS WHILE A HOUSEHOLD FEMALE GOES BY WITH THE TURKEY ALREADY ON A PLATTER, AND A CHILD REACHES OUT EXCITEDLY. IT IS ONE OF THE MOST COMPLEX AND BUSIEST OF LEYENDECKER'S COVERS.

yes, happy thanksgiving. i think that the last one shows an old man dreaming of a thanksgiving past - by the clothes and dreamy effect.
