About 15-20 years ago, I was at an antique show in downtown Chicago looking for Loetz. I saw this wonderful iridescent art glass vase in a very expensive cabinet belonging to a high end dealer. I was excited to see in person, what I was certain was Tiffany Cypriote. The dealer told me I was looking at Charles Lotton's version of Cypriote Glass. I was amazed that a contemporary artist was capable of such quality. For years afterwards I educated myself on his many styles as well as the work of his other family members. I promised myself that one day I would buy a Charles Lotton vase that was...
1) blue or mandarian red
2) cypriote decorated
The big bonus for me was this form. No knock to his usual shapes but some are just to modern for me. The classic gourd shape is reminiscent of works by Tiffany, Quezal and Steuben. And finally, the "King Tut" type decor made famous by Durand gave this vase every element I could hope for. 8" tall. Properly signed and dated 1981
