I restored this around 8 yrs ago. It's the only year they did a straight bar frame on this model. Old bikes are a lot of fun. They're much cheaper to restore and take up a lot less space than a classic car.

Very cool. I rode my Typhoon 2 speed 25 miles today in the Miller Lite Ride
for the Arts over the Hoan Bridge in Milwaukee, WI.

I have a Typhoon of the same year and style. It was my first Schwinn and I used it on a paper route. Over the years it was ridden hard and put away wet, customized, parts added, then taken away until there was little left. Parts were used off of it to make up others and what were not used were lost or sold. I still have the frame and forks along with the crank sprocket and I believe rear hub. I would like to restore it to its original glory days and was wondering if you could point me in a direction. Where did you find suppliers for this restoration? I know some things can be found on sites such as e-bay. Also I found another 26" girls bike to scavenge some parts from (here we go again). I have debated whether to stick with the original painted rims and fenders or go later chrome as you did. Boy it sure does look sharp though. I didn't give much thought about this till recent and now am amazed at how challenging finding the right parts are. Not to mention how much more expensive things are then they were 30-40 years ago. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Just a follow up to last message as I missed checking the e-mail box. I'll get the hang of this yet.

Olderbytheminute, Memory Lane Classics is a great resource for all things vintage bicycle. Here's a link to their website: http://www.memorylane-classics.com/
You are right. This bike originally had painted fenders and rims. I decided to make it into a "deluxe" Typhoon by adding a little chrome... The chrome S-7 rims came off a girls bike I had and the fenders are Wald. I bought the Schwinn Westwind tires from Memory Lane along with the front rack and pedals. Have fun!

I am in the process of reconditioning a 1970 Typhoon. I'm using these photos as inspiration, because I think it really is gorgeous. Hopefully mine will turn out half as nice. I'll post a photo or two when I'm ready...
