I found this coin/medal while rototilling a garden 10-12 years ago. I have never been able to determine how old it is or what it is from/for. I know it's not in the greatest condition, but I was hoping someone help me finally identify it.
It has George Washington on the front. The coin/medal is approximately the same size as a nickel.
What state did you find it? This is a neat piece. I could not find anything on-line that looked exactly like it. It looks like a coin made into a pendant. Don't give up, I am sure someone out there will have an idea of what it is. From what I hear George Washington items are very collectible. If it is real it could be worth something.

I was thinking coin too. It seems what you have here is a colonial coin. Different colonies had different coins. Before the eagle, the lion was used on most colonial items, which it seems is on the back of your coin, a lion on its hind legs? Are there any letters on the back? Do I see an E? I would take this to a historian or coin expert.
After looking up the lion which you spoke of, I do see how the reverse resembles it. Thank you both for your help thus far.
This is not coloial, the "george washington" would be read sharply, not in the type of font either, probably a fake coind made into a pendent.
My guess would be early 1800-1850s comemorative piece (even then known as the father of the country) not as old as Georgie himself the font is too new to be as old
Some one was playing games and probably made this circa 1932 which was Washington's 200th birth year. The Washington portrait side was molded from one of the many medals issued at that time. The other side is a copy of a Belgian coin issued during the German occupation of WWI.
