Was given this back in the spring and was wondering what kind of art it is. The giver of the art was originally was out in the world of the Far East and India and China and Japan etc. Not sure of the origin but it is at least 40+ years old.
I have never seen any thing like it myself.

Indian deities in some sort of struggle. Save bet is that it is from India. I'm not certain who is depicted in the panels, but it looks like some sort of struggle in the underworld with a dominant female deity (Shiva?) beating down a demon of some sort. Very nice carving.
I agree about the Hindu theme but it might also be from Bali - Ubud.
Shiva in Java is known as Batara Guru and the other figure might be Batara Kala, his son and god of the underworld.
How can I find an India Art person who could tell me more about this picture.
It is old over 65 years.
