Here is a sewing machine I was given that I know nothing about. It has got a serial number V 513563 are there any manuals out there for this? It is not a good example I don't think and I am not sure whether it works, its just been in the garage for years in a wooden box.

      Hi Poppy,
Your machine is a model 28K - the K means it was made at Singer's Kilbowie factory near Glasgow, Scotland. It is from a batch of 250,000 identical machines commissioned in the first half of 1908. There is a free manual here:
      http://www.singerco.com/uploads/download/268_27_28.pdf.
The 27 is the full size version of the 28.
This machine takes a standard 15x1 sewing needle - just make sure you insert it according to the manual, this is one of the biggest causes of these machines refusing to sew :).
It's not in perfect condition but it looks like it will clean up ok and should work.
