This barn was built in the 1850's,and it great storage for our Antique tractors and equipment,It is 25 feet tall and is 32x44 minus the lean-too.
In 2007 70mph winds took the back 2/3's of the 15 year old amish built roof off (went 400 yards)
I fixed it that time(with some help from my dad,who can't get on the roof) and in july of 2012 91 mph winds took 15 feet off of the front(went 200 yards),as you can see I've(with some help from my dad) been busy working on it in pic#2,the new metal will be here tuesday.
The lean-too was built in 1965
In the last pic ,I decided to hang the hay forks back up when I had the scaffolding in the mow, notice the rafters are just debarked trees!
And the hay track is wood not steel.I will post new and more pics when it's done!

JUST A LITTLE MORE FASCIA TRIM AND IT'S DONE!!!!Oh and a 3rd window,I need a little more light in there!

Nice old barn, I like the hay fork, never seen one like that.
Up here they used hay slings, they would place one on the floor of the rack, pile some hay on, then put down another sling, repeat till rack was full. When they got back to the yard they would connect the rope to the four corners of the sling & lift each layer into the loft.
Look forward to seeing it finished, put lots of screws in that metal.

Stay away from those big winds & you won't have to test out the holding strength of those screws.

nope 2 weeks ago 1 sheet of tin blew up on the old farm house ,the scaffold is going there next!Just need to screw it back down,it's held on by lead headed nails and they are deteriorating.

I had to bring this back up and a few others of my favorite photo's . I guess I am missing the old farm life gargoyle :-)) love old barns and how people helped each other back in the day . A barn went up and all your fellow farmers showed up to help each other . It was good hard working people and always helped each other .
