This is a Hamilton pocket watch made circa 1900 as a contract peice for a jeweler in Roswell NM . Their name is on the movement and dial. It's a big old 18 size hunter case model with 17 jewels. Pat Garrett was known to be in Roswell around that time. Pretty cool huh?

Im only 21 but I am in love with these timepieces, the beauty and intricacy intrigues me beyond anything produced today. Computers are a feat of engineering but just as much thought went into these watches and many of them still run today! My 4 year old laptop just fried for the final time. Wish they were designed more like this watch. ITS A BEAUT SIR.

With these "private labels" you have to look at things like the shapes of plates, placement of screws, and the types of regulators used and then compare them to other known watch movements. There's a great book, "Complete Price Guide To Watches" that's packed with info including a chapter on identifying private label watches. As far as working on them, I can do a lot of very basic things like changing a mainspring or stripping one down for a cleaning and lubricating... Right now I have an Elgin with a broken balance shaft...I dropped it... I've never replaced one but I'm going to give it a shot. It's all tedious work but I enjoy it. Thanks for your interest!

I have the same watch (I do believe anyway). I can not get the back open to look at the movement. Any suggestions???

Nevermind....it is not the same watch. Mine does not have a case or the numbers, just the roman numerals. I still can not get this thing open to find any markings or serial number.

@Jenn, :::::::::::::why not join the fun and post some pictures of your find(s)....you never know you might get some REAL help ....:-) It is very hard to give opinions on something you can't see .....

I had trouble opening the little door to see the movements on a Ladies' Elgin Pocket watch, and I think the little edge to open it with was worn off....I actually think it had never been opened, but used alot.....but no other wear and tear on it....the design on the outside of it is impeccable....like new....pretty little thing.
