We do not know much about this item. It is my grandmothers and she inherited it from her grandmother. There is no model number on the machine nor a serial number. All the cabinet says is M C and CO any information would be appreciated
It looks to be a National VS - the serial number should be on or under the front bobbin slide cover?

The single picture is a bit blurry, so I'm not sure why the OP described it as a Montogery Ward VSM. I suppose that stencil on the horizontal arm might read "Montgomery Ward," because it is a long string. It might even have the initials "MW" on the shoulder inspection plate.
The late great Bernadette identified this as a National Sewing Machine Company vibrating shuttle sewing machine head, and that sounds right.
Which NSMCo vibrating shuttle?
Let's see: angular body, shoulder inspection plate, top leaf upper tension, and pillar screw stitch length mechanism.
I think I'd go with the VB-TT Type 3:

It's pre-WWII, because it has the old-fashioned black with decals finish as opposed to the crinkle brown finish:
