I recently bought this beautiful Doulton Lambeth pottery vase . it has a fantastic shape. This Foliage Ware vase has lovely design of ferns including Maidenhair fern . The designs are made with real ferns which are presssed onto the wet coloured salt glaze then fired, a technique invented by Douton in the 19th century. the Artist responsible for this vase is Jane Rumbol .
The vase has lovey tones of mottled greens and tans and whites and deeper brown fens.
Size :- 9 1/2 " High X 4 3/4 " Diametre .
Marks:- DOULTON LAMBETH mark , roo :- designers mark for Jane Rumbol ; RS :- initials of the potter.
I love this type of ware , one of Doultons potters came to Austalia in the late 19th century and made this foliage ware with gum (Eucalypt ) leaves from the bush outside the pottery (Mashmans ) . I was lucky to once own a piece . they are worth 10 times a Doulton one and are just as beautiful .

thanks Vet and Bratjdd tis noice
These use to bring good money a decade or so ago . seems like not too many people collect Doulton these days.
I was the form and the maidenhair fern that drew me to this particular piece.
Simply awesome.
Beautiful! I recently became familiar with the work of Jane Rumbol when I saw one of her pieces at a friend's house. I admired it for months and finally took it in hand to see who had made it.
Yours is particularly beautiful, with it's delicate fern pressings and background texture.
Thanks for posting it and Happy Holidays, Marty!
Thanks Al ; Bellin68 and Budek ....
Love the shape, love the tactile look to it and love the earthy colours...love it...:-)
