Greatsnowy…

I picked up this piece about a year or so ago. It was my first piece of Galle Glass. It was one of those auctions that have very fuzzy pics and only show one or two pics of the piece. So I was buying it because it looked intriguing. They didn't have the signature shown or anything. Didn't call it out as Galle. I am sure they didn't know. When I took it out of the box and saw that signature I did do a little happy dance!

This piece dates to the early 1890's (I think)

Superb! Is the base marked too?

nope the base is not marked. Mike Moir said that he's talked to some other collectors and apparently this base is well known on first peroid Galle.

The bronze stand of snails is wonderful too! I was just wondering if they might be gourds and vine on the vase. The signature is beautifully worked reflecting the vine and the coiled 'feelers'. Very 'Japonaise'.

It looks like there is a painted "13" under the signature. I wonder if this may help date it further or suggest a particular model. Put me on your "want list" for this beauty when she's ready to move to another home.

If you're not previously familiar with that signature, then it might look like a little tendril from the tree or something. It pays to familiarize yourself with stuff like this

Speaking of Galle, today I found some guys on eBay who sell very obvious and AWFUL fake Galle and Daum pieces. I think they're gypsies. Their name is "romani6" if anyone is bored and wants to check it out. From their feedback, people actually think its real I believe
