Superb condition WWI American steel helmet. Don't know when they started manufacturing helmets in the USA, but I think in the later WWI years. It is in real good condition for its age.

neat find petey, thanks for sharing.
love all of the beautiful helmets you have posted :)
Is there an easy way we can tell the diff. between Amer. & Brit. helmets by looking at pictures we see?
Thanks for looking kerry10456, BELLIN68 and blunderbuss2. In answer to your question blunderbuss2, I am no expert, but what little I know is that:
Brodie patent stamps under the liner are red in British helmets and tend to be black in American.
Chin strap rivets in the rim tend to be flatter in the British helmets.
Top lining fixing rivet is sometimes more 'star' shaped in American helmets.
Heat stamped markings in the rim normally begin with 'Z' for American helmets.
You really need a close up photo to be able to ID a helmet.
your very welocme petey:)
Sounds a bit hard to determine from pics.
