Bought this several years ago for my son when he made Eagle Scout. We don't know what year it was made, but it is marked Sterling on the back, near the top. This piece seems to be a high quality cast, with very nice details. The uniform style shows the high collar and the campaign hat, with crossed guns and flags. The details on the front are crisp, with just a bit of wear on the high spots. If anyone has info about this piece we would love to know.
Measures approximately 1-3/8" high (including fob attachment at the top) x 1-1/4" wide (at widest point.)

Thanks to AR8Johnson, for your comment about this watch fob. Luckily, we didn't pay a fortune for it -- I wondered about that Sterling silver mark on the back -- it seemed unlikely to me that they would have been issued in solid silver back then. It's still a nice piece, and my son likes it, so I guess that's all that matters, but it is a bit disappointing.
It's a good lesson that people need to really do their homework before purchasing things that are sold as "vintage" or "antique". Thanks for the information.
Many jewelers would take popular fobs and cast them in sterling silver to sell in their shops along with their pocket watches. They were not made to intentionally deceive at the time.
