This Deer Head was given to my father by Chicago's very own Butch McGuire. It has been in our family over 35 years. It is made from poreclain and I am wondering the best way to clean it?

What an amazing piece!
I've found the most effective cleaner for pottery is Tilex "Soap Scum" remover (NEVER Tilex Mold & Mildew cleaner, it contains concentrated bleach, which may damage some ceramics). Soap scum remover works miracles removing years of built-up soot, cigarette smoke and soil. It's far superior to any of the multi-purpose cleaners or degreasers I've tried - and I've tried dozens over the years.
You're obviously going to have to pad your working surface very well for the cleaning. Perhaps several old towels on the shower floor? Looks like it would be too big to lie flat in a tub. Spray thoroughly with Tilex SSR and let it soak a few minutes. A very soft brush, such as a paintbrush, will help with loosening the soil in the crevices. Rinse and repeat. You'll likely use an entire bottle of cleaner. Wear gloves, Tilex SSR will draw all the moisture out of your skin.
Set it outside on a warm day to dry - again on a pad of some sort. You'll have to rotate it so the interior will dry also.
While you have it off the wall, see if the backside is marked. Perhaps take a few pics of the marking(s) and post them back to this thread? I'm dying to know who made the piece.
