Bakelite, lucite, celluloid.

Many of these lighter yellow pieces might have been white and have darkened over the years. I wish that would stop! I don't have them anywhere NEAR light now. When I bought the polka dot bracelet 20 years ago it was a soft yummy butter color.

I think you can sand them down and under the yellow they could be white. But I dont know if thats really good for your health because they used weard things to get different colors in bakelite. I have heard they also used asbestos for some colors...So thats not really good.
But I personally love the yellow. It shows they are real and they have age

Thank you both for your expertise and taking time to pass great info along. I have heard about sanding them - and agree w/you. Mainly seems to be successful for restoring old bakelite radios but I am sure sanding the bracelets would then require a new sealant? And, yes - that wrecks the antique affect.

Thank you AR8Jason for your info on storing celluloid - I have learned the hard way too w/some of my cool old buttons. Now I know why most are displayed on cardboard apart from eachother.

Thank you for loving my yellow bakelite collection - mustangtony, bratjdd, vetraio, newtimes and vintagemad. Fun looking at this again today.
