This item was brought out of mainland China around 1880. It is handcarved and made out of rosewood. In the US it is known as a cedar chest. It is one of the most beautiful pieces of furniture that I have ever seen. I, also, have four carved cork pictures of chinese life that was brought out of China at the same time.
