The piece is a heavy bronze piece, The Staunton must refer to the area this was made for, probably Virginia. Possibly for cars that were in parades and such where the town name was a good fit. I have seen the piece before, but always with Buick or Oldsmobile, it is fairly rare I imagine. The motometer seems glued to the piece, but only through being on it for nearly a century. Likely around 1925. Need a photo from the top to show the unique shape of the piece on top.
This style of dogbone was made with a number of varients in the name, usually an automobile make, the most common Buick and Oldsmobile.

hi phil -- placed a pic on esmeralda's posting of the water color pic of the two arabs -- my dad was the service manager for lincoln mercury in portland oregon when i was a little girl -- so cars have always been very special -- that was the game him and i played while mom shopped -- identify the car -- year -- make -- model etc etc
