I just got this from thrift store for $7.00. It is so small see wine cork and jewelers scope. 7 inches long, yet that is silver, two pieces on front and same on back. The copper has a nice patina also. and brass has nice decoration. Wood looks old. I think this is old as nails have different size heads in some places. Someone took a lot of time to make this box. Maybe a box for jewelry? I really like it, I must think of something small to keep inside. If anyone has any ideas of what or who made this and when it was made, please let me know. thanks for looking!

      Okay, here we go...
Lipstick holder, spices, illegal substances (unless you are in certain states), jewelry, but my favorite idea is...secret love notes!

Lovely little treasure chest -- I would have my trunk monkey keep his little collections inside. I would say however that, judging from the materials, particularly the latch, that it is not that old. Craftsmen in India and Asia minor are making these nice little boxes and chests by hand for our market. If it was antique that latch would be made of much sturdier material. However I may be off the mark so just a thought....

I believe you are right, I looked but could not find one like it, I still would have bought it for $7. It took some work to make, a machine didn't cut and pound in all those nails. The brass hinges inside are inset, the wood has been notched so they fit tight., with 6 tiny nails in each hinge. Pretty good work! Three wine corks just fit inside, maybe keep my sterling sword brooches inside!

Hi AR This is strange I tested the wire mesh 2 times and silver on front of box, both times came positive, I put photo of this up! Does the mesh look different or interesting at all, I love being retired, I can play all day long! Happy Holidays!!!
