Jefferson or one of the "Founding Fathers" said that paper money was inherently due to failure. Probably took longer than they would have predicted, but that prophecy seems to have arrived. Beautiful collection. Money when it was really worth something or at least is today as collector's items.

Looking back at these closely, they are promissory notes, same as the Confederacy issued. Well, worth more now than then if you take gold or anything but paper money for them!
