Egyptian Winged Cap With Motometer 1925
Apart from the natural aging of the finish on this bronze Egyptian Cap, the piece is in very fine condition. It first came out Circa 1925 by Lawrence A. Sweet Mfg. Co. Inc. in Los Angeles, Ca. U.S.A.
The discovery of Tutankhamun's tomb by Howard Carter in 1922 is considered the most important archaeological find of the 20th century. At that time, there was another revival of Egyptomania which started in the early 1700's and was heavily a factor of Empire Furniture and the Regency period of 1805 to 1815, and during that time many pieces of furniture were made in the Egyptian taste. I have several books on Egyptomania which I collect.
I got this piece from bids on Ebay.

This person needs you expertise!
Thanks Gargoyle, Looked at their ornament and was less than impressed. I would not have said a bad thing about it unless they asked, but they did, usually I don't run around calling hood ornaments fakes, usually I don't comment about it. The original Mercury hood ornament had no resemblance to theirs !~
I knew you were the one to ask! Some times the answer isn't always peaches and cream!
I can see all of your ornaments sitting in a glass case ....really nice
Such beauty and craftsmanship. Nothing in this day and age comes close.
