Pair of vintage or antique bone Samurai swords. The katana is 37” long, the wakizashi is 30” long. Swords and scabbards are decorated with fine and coarse line engraving. Bone blades are laminated in overlaping sections. Wooden stand is laminated completely with thin plates of engraved bone.

any idea what the animal bone used on these might be jim
Hi epson, I believe this is sheep bone, but it could be from any of a variety of animal bone used for carving. I am sure, however that it's bone, based on the surface striations which can be seen in the fourth enlargement. Their absences isn't proof of anything, but their presence is a positive. Regards, Jim
