Happy Holiday's to Everyone on Collector's Weekly!

112 years ago this print graced the pages in Harper's Weekly on December 8, 1900.

Titled: His Christmas Dinner

Artist: Maxfield Parrish

This is one of M.P. earlier works that was done well before the "Girls on Rocks" series which is where he gained most of his fame and fortune as an an artist.

In the 4th pic is M.P. signature and it is colour enhanced to show in detail the humor that is barely visible in the print.

Thanks to all for sharing many fantastic collectibles this past year. I have certainly enjoyed this site as a resource that offers a wealth of information.

Enjoy what you love and be blessed for what you have....

Cheers to 2013.

why do you think that this is maxfield parrish? i can't find anything about it which reminds me of him besides his initials. where did you find it?

sorry - i don't mean to be the grinch!

Hi Ho2cultcha. The reference is Maxfield Parrish, by Erwin Flacks on page 151. This is one of his earlier works. 20 years before his "Girls on Rocks" series. Hope this helps! :)

is there a picture of it, or just the title?

hmmm. i just can't make it fit. i'm familiar w/ his early work as well as his later work. i've been inside most of the houses he painted and have seen hundreds of originals, as well as prints and this one is just so different in every way. i have flacks, but it's packed away somewhere. i don't doubt you, but this piece has me confused. i just wrote to alma gilbert to ask her about it. i'll let you know what she says.

sure enough! this is what Alma Gilbert said: 'Nice to hear from you. That is indeed a Parrish image. The original is owned by the Delaware Museum of Art. I have seen it in a couple of exhibits. AGS'

    sorry for doubting the piece!

Glad you were able to find the confirmation you needed. I live very close to Delaware and it would certainly be a great trip to take and see the painting in person. Thanks for letting me know where the original is on display. This is one of my favorites from Parrish. I bought a huge collection a few years ago and I held on this print the longest.

i grew up just down the road from where he lived. my folks knew him and my grandparents were friends w/ him. i've seen many originals of his paintings - some which were never reproduced and which have only been seen by a handful of people.
