He might be a tad short yet but a great old home made tetherball pole . When kids actually did not have cell phones and video games . This was popular back in that day . I have not seen one in a yard in many years but it was the game I loved to play . The little guy is a family member
Tetherball is a North American game for two opposing players. The equipment consists of a stationary metal pole, from which is hung a volleyball from a rope, or tether. The two players stand on opposite sides of the pole. Each player tries to hit the ball one way; one clockwise, and one counter (anti-) clockwise. The game ends when one player manages to wind the ball all the way around the pole so that it is stopped by the rope. It must not bounce

Manikin,
Great photo. This reminds me of when I lived on the coast in N. California, and about 6 years old, my brother & I was in the back yard playing tetherball, and all of a sudden, we couldn't figure out why the ball kept going around the pole and we couldn't hit it. It was our first remembrance of an earthquake.
