Anyone know what this is its about 10cm round its solid brass says gas on front it lifts like a lid maybe of an old pump anyone know what it is

may have went to some old gas line -- doubt it was for an auto -- nice piece
Looks like it might have been on a old wooden boat
Could be it has holes to attach it to something
