Here's another find of the day, white gold / diamond / sapphire, it was in the costume jewelry tray of course, for one dollar. Good size diamon in the center, great clarity, and it was so brilliant I didn't even need to inspect it closely and draw attention to myself, just stuck it in my pile. Theres nothing I love to find more than fine antique jewelry : ]

*gasp* $1? oh my, lucky you!! It is absolutely stunning. I'm seriously itching for a decent garage sale... it's been about a month since my last good finds.

Ahhh you should get out and go to the next one! There are probably some tomorrow!

Do you go to estate sales ever? THOSE are where the action is. Garage sales tend to be the stuff people want to get rid of, so theres less opportunity for valuables. Estate sales are when people die and EVERYTHING is for sale. Thats where I went today. I got over $1,200 worth of gold for five bucks, plus the Lalique, ivory carvings, a painting that sold for a $1,000 just now, huge 19th century Chinese jade carving, sterling picture frame, and lots more! Those kind of things aren't what you usually find at garage sales. Gotta wait for 'em to die lol...

Here, go to EstateSales.net and find some sales in your location for tomorrow morning. You know you want to!!

What kinds of things do you normally buy? Do you like/know jewelry?

Awesome finds. That sounds amazing, I'm so jealous lol. As for estate sales, I live in Queensland, Australia, and we don't really get a lot of those. I know there are some deceased estate auctions around, but I don't think there are any near where I live (or perhaps I'm just not in the loop). Either way, it looks like it's much more fun treasure hunting in the US. :P I usually go to garage sales every Saturday but there hasn't been many lately. I'm hoping they'll pick up now that the holidays are over. I've found some pretty good things at garage sales... I mean, nothing extremely valuable, but nice collectables that are usually sold for a dollar by elderly people who don't know the value because they've had them for so long.

I buy a bit of everything. My collections are quite random - I really just buy whatever catches my eye. I especially love old photos and books.

As for jewellery, I do love it but I don't have a lot of knowledge. I certainly don't know enough to spend big bucks on anything, but I'll often find nice vintage pieces here and there. Nothing as impressive as yours though lol.

Really? There aren't many estate sales in Queensland? I guess I kind of assumed they were everywhere. I live near the largest retirement community in the US, basically 2 whole CITIES of nothing but retired people, so we have about 15-20 to go to every weekend.

I do it to make a living so I'm under pressure to find valuable things, but I'm deffinitely a collector too, I buy and keep a few things that I really like. Can't keep everything of course, but I like to have a beautiful house, lol!

Jewelry is my thing, my bread and butter. I love all kinds of vintage/antique jewelry, costume and fine. I'm always on the lookout for gold and silver. If I were you, I'd keep an eye out for it too, its a great way to make extra cash. In fact, that ALONE put food in my mouth for several years, just looking for gold and silver, valuable jewelry, etc.

Anyway, if you ever do get a chance to go to estate sales, thats where the best stuff is at

      Happy new year!

oh wow! 15-20 - I wish!! No, we don't get many at all. There is ONE this weekend and it is almost 2 hours away from me. So, they're few and far between. You know, I very rarely see jewellery at garage sales here. Odd, huh? I'll definitely keep an eye out, though. I sell a bit here and there, but haven't really found anything worth more than a few hundred. I dream of that special big ticket item.... haha

Anyway, I love the stuff you find. :)

Happy New Year to you too!

I'd call the style of this piece Edwardian, from about 1900 -1915, rather than Art Deco.

Yeah you're right Davyd, there aren't any elements of Art Deco in the design, but I always see these white-gold filigree bar pins listed that way, and I added that at the end so anyone searching for them on Google would find this one
