This is a stop watch only, by the New Haven Clock Co. 1853 - 1946, reorganized to the New Haven Clock & Watch Co. March 1946 - 1956.
This is marked PAT.PEND. on the movement.
The button on the side of the case between the 5 & 10 operates the stop/start function. Moving it down starts the timer & moving it up stops the timer.
The 4th image above is from George Townsend's book, Dollar Watches, The Watch That Made The Dollar Famous, and describes it as:
Octagon case, nickel plated. Indicates playing or working time from one second to one hour.
