This old chest has original paint and the newspaper that lines the inside has dates from the 1870's and is in German. It appears to have all the original hardward as well but a couple of nails and one piece of the bands is missing. It was purchased 30-40 years ago by my mother at an antique store in Rochester MN. I would love any info that anyone may have about this item (i.e. vintage, value etc....).
Thanks

Nice piece of history. These were the chest that carried all that was valuable during the migration from Europe to America. It's origin is plastered all over the inside with those newspapers. Tough to put a value on these, but I have seen them bring somewhere in the mid hundreds.
