I bought this at an estate sale a while ago. The family had put all of their father's service medals and trinkets in a shoebox for a dollar, I can't believe it meant so little to them!

Anyway, this guy was in there, its impossible to photograph but it says "Princeton / 1951 / Korea" The woman told me that her father had made that in the machine shop on the USS Princeton while he was at sea. I just think its so neat! He even fabricated the pinback out of a thick wire or something. I like it because its what I consider true trench art, handmade by servicemen during wartime out of materials on hand, no assembly lines or prefab pieces. So cool!

amazing how little respect is given to these types of momentos -- the same is found in the handmade quilts, crocheted, knitted etc etc -- you can pick them up many times for free or even just 10 cents -- makes me sad -- will never allow that to happen to my two grandmother's goods -- in fact grandmother said autumn -- when i pass -- no garage sales -- have the family take what they want and burn the rest -- needless to say -- nothing was burned

      Nice trench art!

Post WW2 pieces are much harder to find. You were lucky to get it. Do you still have his service medals? If so, I'd like to see them as well.

I guess some people do not have the words "Treasured Keepsake" in their Vocabulary. How Sad.

Look at it from the other side-- IF families kept everything, then there wouldn't be anything on the collector market!
