Patent leather is a type of leather that has been given a high gloss, shiny finish. Patent leather begins as a superior grade of fine grain leather that undergoes a process to achieve the glossy look. Modern patent leather usually has a plastic coating. Your purse may be leather (the materials label would state that), but from the picture it does not look like patent. Is it very shiny? Remember the shiny black shoes little girls used to wear as an example.
