Boda Glasbruket History

In Boda shows the high chimney road to Old hut. This extinguished the 2003rd A new small foundry established in the autumn of 2003 in the old glass painting and flower grinding process.

The first hut was built of wood as all other furnaces in the glass of the kingdom during the 1800s and early 1900s. First cab building in Boda was built of wood from a building at the abandoned mill in Broakulla which was bought for 2000 crowns, was transported here and built up. Unfortunately, this was burning down, like most other foundries in glass empire has done. Foundry in Boda has actually burned on three different occasions; 1928, 1941 and 1991. Current old furnace was rebuilt after the fire partially 1991st

Glassworks started this 1864th On the site there where two farms and a mill, which was heard at the names on the site, which was Förlångskvarn and Boda Fall. The founders were glasblåsarmästarna R Viktor Scheutz and Erik Vidlund who worked at Kosta glassworks.

The glass produced in the smelting sold from the beginning in part with the help of glass traders who went around with glass baskets. Coffee Pumpkin was a very popular product. Glass was also run in the boxes to the railroad in Örsjö for transport to cities or other countries. During the war tins a great product. Not until the 1950's, glassworks sell glass in booths next to the foundry. Then as now, it sekundaglas sold at Glassworks towns while prima sold in glass and porcelain shops.

Bodas heyday

Boda was a big name, thanks to a combination of the enterprising manager of the mill, Eric Rosen, the innovative designer Erik Hoglund and mill skilled glassblowers. Erik Hoglund recruited as young directly from the College of Arts in the early 1950s. His distinctive glass is widely known. You can still see Erik Hoglund glass in many places, as both use glass, art glass and other artistic embellishments, such as candlesticks with wrought iron and glass combined.

1964 started Kosta Boda cooperation which consisted of Kosta, Boda and Åfors. A collaboration which today has grown into one of the world's most recognized brands in the industry.

Other people in modern times have left their mark on the Boda glassworks is Monica Backstrom and Kjell Engman, who for many years had both studio and exhibitions here.

Workers'

In the past, included free accommodation when you were employed at glassworks. They also had free firewood for fuel and often a place to potato cultivation. An old map from 1897 shows that there were only eight homes in the industrial community Boda when the mill had been in operation for over 20 years. The first homes built in Boda was: White building no, the old cartridge construction, no, no red building, Franssonska building, "ball", "stable-room Seven", "Smedstugan" and "Carpenters Dwelling". The larger houses for several families, called barracks, located along the road north, moved here from the year 1904 closed Löfsta glassworks, which was in the woods in northern Algutsboda parish. In Boda is currently the majority of workers' housing preserved.
