I am trying to find out what this item is. It is from the 1950s or 1960s and is either a scuba device or something like that made in Italy. I have sent several different people pictures of this item and no one can figure out what it is. There is no name on it whatsoever. If anyone can help me I would really apprecitate it.
The item is three feet long and is two feet wide and I believe that it is used for pulling a swimmer accross the water or waves to go scuba diving or maybe snorkling.
It has an engine on it and looks like some kind of throttle.

I have had several scuba diving people look at this item and they have never seen anything like it but would love to have one because it looks like it would be a lot of fun to use. I have two of them so really want to find out exactly what they are. Can anyone help me?

      These are gas powered

Do you still have them? I'll ask some of my old timers.
I think you're on the right track about towing a swimmer, snorkeler, or diver across the surface.
The modern equivalent we now call a Scooter and is battery powered (therefore waterproof and can run deep underwater as well. We use them go cover more ground without wasting energy (and air) and get to slightly more remote dive sites.
