nldionne
(251 items)

This weighs about seven pounds and is possibly from Europe . Looks like bunches of circles inside. Any ideas?
Please find enclosed the expertise of your piece.
Description : vase in cased crystal : clear/green Décor : large
pastilles who increase and cut with biseaux.
Technique : The piece is cased and blown in an iron mould. The cutting
is realized with a diamond wheel.
Date : it is a vase of the 1930's, like a "Sion". The cutting is also
representative for the Art Déco style.
Estimation : 450 euro.
Kind regards

The usual suspects are Belgium and Czechoslovakia; but both Russia and France are possibilities. No marks at all? Palda, Egermann and Gus-Khrustalny are some possible names for further research. There many others. Look for marks of Moser, Baccarat and Val St Lambert. Nice vase!
  3. nldionne nldionne, 2 years ago
Thanks for the info. Mother-in-law was from Belgium and it has been around since all can remember. I was leaning toward Val St Lambert but I know nothing at all about glass. There are no marks so it may remain a mystery forever. You are wonderful, Thanks!!!

I'd have to agree with your European assessment on this one. I'm a student of EAPG so that would be mostly a guess.

Hi Bellin.. there is a lot of unsigned VSL out there. they used paper labels.
  31. Greatsnowyowl Greatsnowyowl, 2 years ago
to the best of my knowledge VSL was not always signed even after then. Nothing I've read from any of the scholars on this topic has ever implied that.

I am not saying this particular piece is or is not VSL.. but they were not always signed.
  32. nldionne nldionne, 2 years ago
Thanks for the info greatsnowyowl, much appreciated.
    Thanks for the loves everyone.

  33. nldionne nldionne, 2 years ago
    No of course not.

Oh sweet Bellin, you could never upset me in anyway!
  35. Greatsnowyowl Greatsnowyowl, 2 years ago
Are you in the netherlands nldionne or was this bought in the belgium?

If so it's very unlikely that this is American.
  36. nldionne nldionne, 2 years ago
It was my mother in laws, she came from Belgium.
  37. Greatsnowyowl Greatsnowyowl, 2 years ago
I caught that SHE came from belgium but is there evidence that she had this prior to coming to the states or was she still in belgium when this was brought out of her estate.
  38. nldionne nldionne, 2 years ago
She brought it to USA from Belgium when she married my husbands father in early 40's during war.
  39. nldionne nldionne, 2 years ago
At this point I have no idea! I'll keep looking since my husband wants to know but I release you oh mighty one:)
  40. nldionne nldionne, 2 years ago
Thanks, needed a good laugh this morning. Oh I bought a loube for next time.
  41. nldionne nldionne, 2 years ago

The Roseville sunflower? Don't know just wanted to check most roseville small bowls don't run much but evidently sunflower is very collectible or something. On eBay every piece I saw was running a lot higher than similar piece with different pattern. May want to reconsider or hold off to research.
  45. nldionne nldionne, 2 years ago
    LOL. Is emerald green, sorry:)
  46. nldionne nldionne, 2 years ago
Eye, this vase doesn't exist. I have looked at every vase on the web I think. Moser, baccarat, st lambert, bohemian, Czech, it does not exist...
  47. nldionne nldionne, 2 years ago
    Okay, you are right!
  48. Greatsnowyowl Greatsnowyowl, 2 years ago

    http://www.glas-musterbuch.de/Val-Saint-Lambert.48.0.html
there is a pattern that is shown in bowl form that is very similar to this pattern in the 1947 catalog. it's called yalta or yalla. not sure which. the undated catalog also had an example with round cut outs like this has as main ornamentation.
  49. nldionne nldionne, 2 years ago
Thanks so much GSO! This is driving me insane but every time I start to give up I get another clue as to who to look at. Eye4Beauty is an excellent researcher so maybe someday if we don't go blind by then from staring at a computer screen we may find it. Thanks again.

GSO I think you're right it really looks close. I was at a get together for my great niece she is leaving Monday to go onto the army so didn't have a chance to check this out. I really appreciate you taking the time to find this site. You are wonderful!!!

  67. nldionne nldionne, 2 years ago
Thanks GSO. Yes the one I have been nursing is thriving. I had many people asking about him so i posted a picture. His name is Gumption for his will to fight. He is pictured in a little pottery bowl and should be close to top of 1st page since I just responded to a comment on him. I am being told that it is an inappropriate post so it may be taken down, thanks for asking! Have a great day.

  69. nldionne nldionne, 2 years ago
We worked on it for a long time just can't find it. Greatsnowyowl found a pattern yalla or something like that from val st lambert. Eye4beauty worked on this forever but all his comments left when he did.

Ok, all his work was erased?

I sent another request to val st lambert site to find if theirs. They seem to be the closest I can come. Hopefully they will respond. They requested picture a while back. The circle affect on this one is same as on mine.

  84. nldionne nldionne, 2 years ago
Seems like someone took a piece of this one and another piece of that one and put together my vase.
  85. RussTenale RussTenale, 2 years ago
Exactly. I am seeing influences all over from other pieces. A collaboration maybe?
  86. nldionne nldionne, 2 years ago

Russ, Good Morning. Got response from site Val St Lambert. They say it appears to be Val St Lambert but they do not have this vase on file. Want to send to expert for 90 Euros. It will be worth it to me to find out one way or another. I would like to get answer for Eye since he worked so hard on this. Hope it's a good thing if it is theirs and they don't have one:) thanks for your help on this. Maybe we will have answer soon.
  96. RussTenale RussTenale, 2 years ago
Excuse my enthusiasium. Sweet! Be cautious though. You have stated before that it wasn't important to you the maker , so 117 bucks. Trust me, eye would not want you to waste money.
  97. nldionne nldionne, 2 years ago
You may be right. It's just that we have worked so hard on this.

They want you to ship it to them? and it will cost 90 euros? I think you are as solid as you're going to be on an attribution here. If they say it appears to be theirs I'd run with it. I wouldn't ship it to them. Odds are of something happening to it and whatnot..

    Oh noooooooo:)
  113. Greatsnowyowl Greatsnowyowl, 2 years ago
There are really times when it's ok to be, ok.. this is close enough. we'll call it this :)

if something else comes along later.. that's great.. but in the mean time the factory said it looked very likely to be one of theirs. That's solid for attribution purposes.
  114. nldionne nldionne, 2 years ago
I asked them what they needed for expert and they said the picture I sent was enough. Since we all know my photo skills I am thinking it is one of theirs they just want payment to authenticate. My husband wants the documentation one way or the other so I will let you know outcome. May take a few weeks. Thanks for your interest and your willingness to help.
  115. Greatsnowyowl Greatsnowyowl, 2 years ago

  138. nldionne nldionne, 1 year ago
Wasn't about the value. Just had to find out who made it. Don't really know why, maybe because it was what brought me to CW. It was my first post.
  139. Greatsnowyowl Greatsnowyowl, 1 year ago
    congrats on a final answer!

what was that about sunflower vase. I just reread this whole thread. I was super big into pottery in the 90's. Definitely rusty on it but I do know my roseville and weller. It's mostly in boxes now except for a few select pieces. Some Roseville was radioactive. I never knew. I thought it was just fiesta, but nearly all the potteries worked with uranium salts.
We're starting on the garage soon both to clear it out (haven't seen the stuff in boxes down there since we moved here four years ago) and to get ready for a garage sale. Most of my pottery is boxed up for the day when values make a comeback. I paid more than it's worth now mostly (but less than it was going for at the time, thank goodness!) I also have a fair amount of 50's and 60's MCM and Mod glass I picked up in the days when I did a lot of thrifting. I may end up posting it here since a lot of people here seem to know that glass and for the most part I haven't a clue about it.
  140. nldionne nldionne, 1 year ago
Thanks GSO. I appreciate the help you gave me. Would love to see your Roseville. That's what I enjoy collecting the most. I may have mentioned a sunflower piece coming to auction. I don't have that pattern. I love all pottery and even though most McCoy isn't very valuable I enjoy finding those pieces that are. The value of my stuff is secondary to what I like. Thanks again for all of your help, love picking up things just don't know what a lot if it is. That's why I love this site so much, the knowledge people share is priceless.
  141. Greatsnowyowl Greatsnowyowl, 1 year ago
yeah mine aren't in storage because of value., it's because I don't love them anymore. to be honest I am not even sure that I can honestly say I like them now. I would sell them but I don't have to and I do think value will come back some day. I have the ones out that I still like. (and one giant magnolia piece that I don't like but it's giant, so it makes more sense just to keep it by the door to hold junk mail. LOL. )
space limitations and all, I love art glass so much more.

here are some links to what I have on my website. It's pretty unfinished my inventory was only what I had upstairs in boxes.

    http://www.thegildedcurio.com/tag-Pottery.html
    http://www.thegildedcurio.com/tag-Roseville.html
only one pic in the weller section right now LOL

    http://www.thegildedcurio.com/tag-Weller.html

I do still love the standard pieces. those were always my favorite across the board with Roseville, Weller, Rookwood, owens and Mccoy. Roseville midline is also great. I have almost no rookwood but that stuff is gorgeous thru and thru.
  142. nldionne nldionne, 1 year ago
Thanks GSO. I agree on the magnolia not the prettiest of pieces. It's hard for me not to start on glass since I see so many beautiful pieces every day on CW I'll look at your links over coffee. Have a great day!

    Hi kvaldez55,

This is what St Lambert site sent to me. Hope it helps.

    Hello,
Please find enclosed the expertise of your piece.
Description : vase in cased crystal : clear/green
Décor : large pastilles who increase and cut with biseaux.
Technique : The piece is cased and blown in an iron mould. The cutting is
    realized with a diamond wheel.
Date : it is a vase of the 1930's, like a "Sion". The cutting is also
representative for the Art Déco style.
    Estimation : 450 euro.
    Kind regards

I looked for months with a friend who never gave up. I thought mine was the only one out there, just can't find them. I finally contacted VSL site and they verified it was theirs. Mine came from Belgium with Mother in Law during war. If it was signed it was worn off.

    Glad I could help!

Haven't posted anything for a long time. Reselling just about anything I find. Still have my pottery at the farm and Amber has sent me some for my collection here in town. Doesn't seem right to post what I will probably end up selling.
