There are lots of Fiesta folk here, they should be able to help date it.
Marking is post 1986 - Pattern is called a Tom & Jerry mug (Item code 453), color looks to be "Sunflower" first offered in 2001 and still current.
Ok, Thanks for the Info Tony!
You are welcome - Fiesta has made changes again to their backstamps (so-called running changes) - I would estimate your particular piece is from the first year issues of the Sunflower color so probably circa 2001-2002 - in other words there are variations of backstamps and this current item in stores would have a rubber-inked backstamp.
Whats the Best Site and/or Book for Identifying stamps or Patterns on Fiestaware...Im Going to be Tracking them Down in the Future and need a Guide to tell age or Rarity!
There are several sites to work from. You can google Fiestaware dating, Fiestaware colors, Fiestaware backstamps. These are some good ones;
http://www.happyheidi.com/antiques/fiesta_gallery.html
http://www.texascooking.com/fiestaware/identifying_fiestaware.htm
fiestadishes.info/collectors.../fiestaware-identification-vintage-or-new
http://www.fiestafactorydirect.com/t-aboutfiesta.aspx
* Note that some have conflicting information - the one with the colors gives the actual dates the colors were used and if they are discontinued. happyheidi gives the actual values of the older pieces, including what percentage value to deduct for damaged items, and complete descriptions and pictures.
The color seems to be newer; however, the design is one of the true classics in the Fiesta line - the Tom and Jerry mug - which was originally designed by Frederick Hurton Rhead in the middle of 1936. The cup handle with the trademark Fiesta ring pattern elegantly stylized is arguably one of the best industrial designs. Where does the name "Tom and Jerry" come from? It's not from the cartoon characters. Actually, it is a old fashioned term for drinking mugs, based on an alcoholic drink made with rum and eggs that was popular back in the 1800's.
