AS USUAL, I JUMP AT THE CHANCE TO HAVE TWO OF A KIND, SO WHEN A FRIEND POINTED ME IN THE DIRECTION OF THIS VASE, I DID NOT HESITATE.
1. LOVELY GREEN OPAL CASED VASE WITH OPAL TRAILING PRUNTS AND RUFFLED TOP RIM, 12 5/8" TALL VASE. NO CHIPS, CRACKS, NICKS, SCRATCHES, STAINS OR REPAIRS. . THE FINISH HAS ITS ORIGINAL SHEEN. THE PONTIL IS FACTORY GROUND AND POLISHED. SIZE IS 5 13/16" TOP DIAMETER X 4 7/8" BASE DIAMETER X 12 5/8" HIGH. (DEALER DESCRIPTION--HE CALLED IT STEUBEN!)
2. SIDE VIEW
3. Y TWO TADPOLE VASES
4. BOTTOM VIEW. MARK ON THE WHITE. 11", 4 PRUNTS INSTEAD OF 3. THE SAME SHAPE, IN BLACK WITH WHITE PRUNTS, APPEARS IN THE WELZ CASE AT THE PASSAU MUSEUM.
WE KNOW NOW THAT WELZ DID NOT ONLY SHARE PATENTS WITH KRALIK AND OTHER COMPANIES, BUT THAT IT WAS AN GLASS EXPORTER. SINCE THE FAMILIES WERE UNITED BY MARRIAGE, IT IS QUITE PROBABLE THAT WELZ EXPORTED KRALIK GLASS WITH A PROVENANCE MARK OTHER THAN THE CLASSIC KRALIK SEMICIRCLE.
IN FACT, WHEN IT COMES TO PROVENANCE MARKS, AT THIS POINT, ONLY TWO BY LOETZ--THE OVAL AND THE SQUARE-- AND ONE BY KRALIK--THE SEMICIRCLE-CAN BE RELIABLE MARKERS FOR THEIR COMPANIES
