This lamp belonged to my mothers Aunt that was born in 1858. She died in 1954 at the age of 96. My mother was born in 1913. Her aunt gave it to her, telling her it belonged to my mothers mother. She gave it to my mother around 1935 when my mom was 22. I have an 8x10 photograph of my father, mother, sister & me (when I was 3 years old - I'm now 72), with this lamp in the background sitting on an old console radio. It has the original glass globe that is a very unique design. It's red with black & white specles through it. It has no cracks or chips. The lamp base is a bare busted lady sitting on rocks, surrounded by water waves. My mother always told me I could have the lamp when she died. She passed away in Nov. 2012 at the age of 99 years and 7 months.

I have tried to look for a mark of some kind identifying the lamp maker - to no avail. There must be one on it somewhere, I just don't know what I'm looking for. If anyone has ever seen one like it or has any information about it, I would really appreciate it. You can contact me at: rrthinktwice@gmail.com (it's ok to publish my email)

    March 9, 2013 (update)
Someone posted here that it was on the cover of "Art Deco Lighting". I bought it so I can pass it down through my family with the lamp & my family photo in 1944 showing the lamp. I'm going to post the family photo now as I said I would (3/9/13). Thanks to all for your information. I am so happy that I found this web site. I love it.

Has anyone ever seen a glass globe like this one? It is round, but has pyramid peaks all around it.

czechman: Thank you so much for the info on the globe! Do you know how I could find ouit the maker of the lamp or the name of it?
    4. UniqueRedGlobe, 11 years ago
czechman, you are amazing!!! I have been scouring the internet for years looking for info on this lamp - found nothing. I can't believe that this collector's book actually has an exact lamp & globe and a picture of it right on the cover! Again, thank you. I'm going to order the book.

And I am so grateful to Collector Weekly for posting this site making it possible for lay people like me to post an item & find people like you.

I can't help with the name of the maker but I can tell you that this same base was done as a clock too. Would you post the picture you have of the lamp on the radio? I would love to see it.
      Sincerely,
      Lisa

The lamp isn't on the radio or part of the radio, it is sitting on the radio in the photo. I can't post the photo right now as my mom just passed away in Maine & I shipped the lamp to my home in Florida. The 8x10 photo is still in Maine. I am going to Maine in February & will bring it back with me - then I can post it.

Yes, I understood that you said the lamp was sitting on the radio in the picture. I am sorry about your Mom. We are never old enough to loose parents are we? I hope your lamp reminds you of happy times.
      Sincerely,
      Lisa

Great art deco lamp, bonus the czech glass sphere. This beauty made it to the cover of ART DECO LIGHTING by Herb Millman, out of New Hope Pa. Considered to be pre Nuart Frankart , Emmauel Williams. I own one as well and it is the pride of my lamp collection. The books quotes its value around $500, I have seen it recently on ebay for $625

missjodi, Thanks for the info? I guess it isn't as rare as I thought. I have one, you have one & it's been on ebay? Well, I still love it for the sentimental value, plus I love unique things that you can't just go to a store & buy it. Do you mean the lamp is made by Emmanuel Williams? I have been trying to find that out.
    10. missjodi missjodi, 11 years ago
Actually it is very rare.....so far I have only found a handful out on the market. This item made it to the hard cover of the book I mentioned, go to Amazon and take a look at the cover. Only something well sort out and desirable soley makes it to the cover of a Collectors reference guide. Case in point the antique dealer I bought it from thought it was a converted oil lamp of all things. The Czech globe is believed to be pre-WW2 made during a period of Czech artisians that are famous for glass that was full of brite happy colors prior to the surpression that followed as an result of Hitler. This globe alone is considered rare, which has been fetching $200 to $300 for a piece of glass. Yes , I am proud to say that you and I have a very rare lamp, enjoy it and revel in its history. I bought the book mentioned and have it on a stand displaying along side this treasure. Awesome that you also share in a family history as well which makes it priceless.

PS...Also the comments about the globe sitting on a radio may have generated from the fact that prior to television , people would place these globes on top of their radio's....hard to find info, but to be more specific they were called Radio Lamps. This was so the listener could look at their radio while listening to their favorite radio programs, very rare. As far as Emmual Williams, it was referenced by an ebay seller, not a reliable source, I would love to know as well as you. I hope I have helped you and keep me posted if you find out the artist that designed it and where it was fabricated.

To those that wanted to see my family photo taken in 1944 showing the lamp, I just posted it - 3/9/13.

I am so happy for you that you ordered the book and have this wonderful picture of you and your family posing along side the lamp. You looked so cute, Mom was beautiful!
Mystery solved except for the designer, which really shouldn't matter much to either one of us I suppose. Best wishes and Thank you for posting, Jodi

thank you so very much for posting your wonderful family portrait. I really appreciate your sharing it here. I love radio lamps and it is so delightful to see your lamp as it was used when your family acquired it.
      Sincerely,
      Lisa.

The globe on the cover of the book is different from the star globe in the picture. It is a beautiful lamp, and a lovely picture of the family.
    16. UniqueRedGlobe, 9 years ago
Reply to katherinescollections - The globe on my lamp is the original. It differs in shape from the book cover because the Czech globes were made in several different shapes & very slight variations in colors. Inside the Art Deco book I have shows the different Czech globe shapes & variations in color. It also shows the exact star globe on my lamp with almost the same colors as mine. Also, the lamp on the cover is lit up so it shows the colors differently then when turned off. Thank you for your comment. It really is a family treasure for me to pass down to my daughter, & then to her daughter's.

I am also trying to find out who the creator of the lamp is. If anyone knows - please let me know. I have put a call into the Art Deco book authors, but they won't be in until this Friday. If I can reach them, I'm pretty sure they will know. If they do - I will post it for anyone interested.
Thanks to everyone for your comments. I love reading them.

Thank you for that clarification, they are both beautiful globes, but there is a definite difference. Lucky that you have the original! :)

These spatter glass shades are a mystery still. I haven't seen info to link most of them to a maker, including this shade unfortunately. My guess is there was probably more than 1 company making them. Definitely deco era & czech though. (that said they are making repros now, which yours clearly isn't)
