This is an original Art Deco pencil and watercolor painting. It is called "The Postmortem" artist signature is "J. L. S"
The painting is 14cm by 14cm. The frame is 30cm by 30cm.
I was given it as a gift when I left my first Senior Nurses job in North Sydney. That was in 1984.
I love the colours and the emotions that are evoked in each character's place in the scene.
I welcome any thoughts or info on its providence or further identity of the artist!

This is delightful! I expected to have an easy job of finding the artist, but I did not find the artist. : ) Is it truly a 'watercolor' and pencil work, or could it be a pochoir? The sharply delineated bands of "gleam" in the hair are quite distinctive. Hope someone can ID it further for you. Wonderful gift, and so glad that you posted this beautiful work.
