I had a lady & man both of mine had Bali carved into base. I do beleive the dark & possibly the light would not sure on that 1 but the dark wood is beleived to be Hard wood which now in Bali is almost or impossible to get as it has been chopped out. Apart from that I cannot help you with anything else, sorry.

My great great uncle brought home one very similar after the civil war. (His civil war records are in my collection). The one he brought home is mahogany and I believe this one is also. The question ends up being country of origin. Normally Philippine mahogany is considerably lighter in color but age and finish could account for that. My first guess would be mahogany and second would be Bolivian Rosewood. I can't bring the pictures in close to see it better on this computer but the piece deserves research. I truly question it being from the Philippines. The facial image, hair and basket on her back don't seem to indicate it to me. If you get frustrated I will take it.
