I picked these up last minute as I was walking out of an estate sale this weekend. I will not say how much they cost me at this point, but it was so ridiculous I purchased them out of sheer,"How could no one have bought these yet?!" I have never been a fan of the "lyre back", but I just had to. Maybe someone would like them as a gift, but they are in excellent shape and totally typical of this style.
I really like old chairs, so I referred to Wallace Nutting's Furniture Treasury. I will add a photo later tonight of example 2399, "Duncan Phyfe, Lyre Back, Sweeping Reeded Back Rail Coming to the Front." The chairs pictured above are nice but very basic and lack the detail in Nutting's example. While not as elaborate, my two chairs give the overall fluid wavy nestled-in chair Phyfe was known for.
The tag on the bottom of he chair still exists, and they are signed in blue. With what or by who I do not know. The tag has basic info.: style, finish, upholstery type. They are very heavy...walnut? My guess mid century 1940's 1950's? Reproduction. Can anyone agree or disagree? Thanks for reading.

concur with everything except the walnut -- grain looks mahogany to me -- stained walnut -- nice chairs -- the screws and staples are the clues for the time frame-- you pretty well nailed it --
