I bought this years ago and now I am going throug my stuff trying to see what is what. I nice little piece of art. I don't kow what it is carved out of? Looks to be a some sort of stone or jade? Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thank you

    Probably soapstone, but again mediocre quality and carvings with little value. The snake's head actually looks like a pigeon or some sort of bird head.

    Hi Dempsey, I'm fascinated with your small and unusual carvings. This one may may be intended to represent a sea serpent or a dragon, rather than a snake. The head is very similar to Eonatator mareserpens which term you can Google and compare with the fourth picture down. The traction feature on the bottom is very similar to that of a 16th century painting of a dragon by Kano Mitsunobu (reference "The Dragon' by Francis Huxley).
    The little horse with monkey rider in your previous post seems to be wading a stream and I particularly like the bronze recumbent horse, a recurring theme in Chinese art. All together a very neat and enviable collection. Best wishes, Jim
