This is mounted on what looks like a horse collar? Found it years ago in my grandfather's basement after he passed, so don't have the history on it. Could anyone help identify what time period, if it is sleigh bells, and any information about it? I would be appreciative. Not sure which topic to put it under so it may need moved after I add it.

Just look interesting to an Australian eye in mid-summer.
I believe they are Saddle Chimes, they would have been strapped to the horse's neck just behind the collar.

They are neat and they may indeed be called Saddle Chimes , but they would not be strapped to the horse's neck just behind the collar . They go a little further back and rest on the horse's withers and the strap is fastened around the horse's stomach right behind it's front legs as part of a harness .
