This large stoneware vessel was made in Betschdorf, near Alsace France by the Remmy pottery. I imagine it was specially commissioned by the winery as a promotional piece. I believe it dates to ca. WWI, but I am not sure. I have never seen another one like it. There are some chips here and there. I found it in Statesboro GA and when I bought it, it was obvious someone had been using it as a planter. I believe it is meant to function as a wine cooler if filled with ice. Anybody know anything about it?
