I really have no idea what this is or what it could have been used for. it's about 2 inches long. and has a screw on the other side. it's very very old.

Oldie, oldie insect sprayer, usually for plants. Love it when you use those big words, like "Atomizer".
because of it's small size, it could also be a perfume atomizer, like this miniature version: http://www.collectorsweekly.com/stories/53470-elizabeth-taylor-perfume-atomizer-lapel
