When I saw this vase I had to have it, it arrived this morning and is in absolutely perfect condition!... I am thrilled to have it!

It's one of those pieces of glass after finding and buying one without knowing what you have... and then finding out, you never think you are ever! possibly going to find another one again.

It was listed as a Stuart vase and was very exited when he accepted my offer.

It is a rare colour combination which.... "Samuel Clarke (UK) used in his fairy lamps and is the only time I have ever seen it. The threaded pattern was officially called "Twisted" Verre Moiré... by Clarke"..... commonly known as..."Twisted Nailsea".

The last two photo shows my already posted bowl together.

I have added the link to my bowl which is were I first learnt all about this glass, kindly told to me by.... 'IMASapp'.

It stands 85mm tall... or... just 3.4 inches...perfect!

Thank you for looking and I hope you like it as much as I do....:-)

    Dear Inky,
Wow! Lovely find. Jim is great. His collection and his generosity to share information match. ;o) I love the pics. When you present a piece you sure do present it. Any secrets to share on capturing those images?
    Sincerely,
    Lisa

We know the bowl was made for a Clarkes Fairy lamp.
Now with this lovely vase we have to work out who made the glass!
  13. vetraio50 vetraio50, 1 year ago
Thomas Webb, Stevens & Williams, Northwood, Phoenix or John Walsh Walsh?

By the by, I saw a base for a fairy lamp here.
    http://www.fairy-lamp.com/Fairylamp/FairyLampUndoc281300.html

Check out the base of U-296.
    Different, I know, but .....?

And for the bowl, is this the patent?

    Have you contacted Jim Sapp?

I thought I would add a link here, to this vase as it was discussed on the Glass Message Board. It was identified as being made by Stuart, by Mervyn Gulliver in discussion with the previous owner at the National Glass Fair. On the thread I've linked to on the GMB, the owner of the vase says that Mervyn Gulliver told him when Stuart closed he was allowed to see all their pattern books and to take notes.
    I hope this is helpful.

Hello Lisa-lighting, thank you for your wonderful complement I do appreciate it. I don't do anything special I just try and find the best spot and get it in focus....:-)

vetraio50 thanks for all the trouble you have gone to, I have looked through that wonderful site, many times, and yes! the base you point out is nearly the same, more common as is the blue, no twists and no third colour....The patent certainly looks like bowl doesn't it, I'm not very good at seeing things when like this but I can certainly see the shape of my bowl....thank you so much!...:-)

SWOON! Does anyone have any smelling-salts?

Oh, inky! I'm so very happy for you!!! This is magnificent!!! And how wonderful that the glass cognoscenti were able to track it down to its creator. Bravo all around!! : D

Hello vetraio50..Yes thank you! I did see it and while corresponding with Jim was shown it again as well, it is quite different to mine as there isn't a twist at the end of each trail/loop and it has only two colours where mine is three. I have just scrutinized mine looking again for a mark..but no!..nothing!... it is a gorgeous piece of glass though don't you think?...:-)
