I found this piece last weekend and had no clue as to who made it or whether it was modern or old. I was taken by the texture and the random placement of the coloured threads. I posted pictures to my glass friends and was pleased to find out that the name of the glass is Peloton.
This from a fellow glass enthusiast:
…since no catalogues exist that show peloton glass, it is usually not possible to identify a maker, although Harrach shapes are known in peloton and peloton has been found on shapes by (American) Phoenix Art Glass from the 1880s. Since the head of the company, Joseph Webb, came over from Stourbridge, England, the possibility exists that it was also being made in England--a possibility embraced more enthusiastically by collectors of English glass than by Bohemian glass collectors”.
Another friend observed that this was likely a glass from a set of glasses and a pitcher.
It pays to have such smart glass friends….!

Peloton was patented (IIRC, it might not have been patented but just created by) by a Kralik (I can't remember his name) who was director or manager or something like that at Harrach. Harrach is the company that produced Peloton. If it was later made by English companies as well, I do not know. That is probably likely.
From what I understand, Peoloton was patented by a Mr. Wilhelm Kralik(a harrach employee), but not "THE" Wilhelm Kralik, of Kralik Glass.
Nice glass Mac.
right. I've heard people attribute Peloton to Kralik glass before but it was actually just a Kralik who worked for Harrach. He was still of the actual Kralik family though.
Thanks you guys.
Really love this one!! : )
